Privacy

This site sets no cookies and runs no tracking or analytics scripts.

Who is responsible

The operator's details and a contact address are being added to this page. Until they are, comments and reports are closed, and the site processes only what is listed below.

What is processed

What we keep when you rate a place

To stop spam without accounts, we compute a key from your network address (your IP address, or for an IPv6 address its first half, which a household or office usually shares), mixed with a random value (a salt) that we create each day. The key is a one-way hash: it cannot be turned back into your address. Each day's salt is deleted after 48 hours, after which nobody, including us, can recompute that day's keys or link them to another day's. We never store your IP address or user agent.

The key is stored with your rating so that limits apply (one rating per place per day). After 30 days it is erased from every stored rating, comment and report.

Cloudflare Turnstile

When you start to rate or comment, the page loads Cloudflare Turnstile, a check that tells people from bots without cookies or puzzles. Cloudflare processes your IP address and browser signals for that check, under its Turnstile privacy policy. Turnstile loads only when you use a form.

Other services your browser contacts

Both receive only this site's address as the referrer, never the place you are reading about.

Searches

The "Being read now" list on the home page shows districts and streets that readers looked up, delayed by at least ten minutes and with no exact time. It never shows a house or a full postcode, and it records nothing about who searched.

Questions on place pages

Place pages count how often each question about the place is shown, opened and shared, so we can learn which questions are worth asking. The counts are kept per question and per day only: they hold nothing about the reader and nothing about the place. Counting sets no cookie and sends no identifier.

Server logs

Our web server keeps no access log. Error logs drop query strings and request headers and shorten IP addresses (to the first three parts of an IPv4 address). Application logs rotate at 10 MB, keeping at most five files per service, and hold no IP addresses or user agents.

Contact

A contact address for privacy requests is being added. Because we hold no data that identifies you, there is nothing we could find or delete for a request about your own visits.
